| “Herkimer
Diamonds” are double-terminated quartz crystals with high brilliance,
clarity, and surface luster giving them the appearance of a real
diamond. The name comes from the original collecting in Herkimer
County, New York and their exceptional crystal brilliance. They
are typically found in small pockets of dolomite limestone rock.
These Herkimer
Diamonds average approximately 1.5"-2" in diameter.
They have clear depth to them, but all have growth fractures, which
give them interesting character, even rainbows in some. Some
also have other mineral inclusions.
Different
crystals in each of the two pictures shown.
